Brand New Wellness Journey
Hi Everyone!
So to kick the blog off I want to update everyone on some new things I am working on.
First off I have to mention that I am engaged and getting married (YAY!!!) ... but more on that later. As you can imagine, being engaged involves eating a LOT and its been amazing, YOLO. Food is amazing, especially engagement food :p. Engagement food is the best food isn't it? Cakes, dinner samples, engagement parties filled with nachos and tequila shots. Basically I have been living my best life.
Side note: I cannot think of a best life that does not involve nachos and tequila.
Being locked in the house due to the current situation has left me time to reflect. I used to love working out, that made me feel good. I used to love eating healthy, that made me feel good. So does cake but maybe not so much cake... I decided that since I have more time to focus on me lately I would undertake a brand new wellness journey.
What does that mean for me? What it means is that I will be doing more things that feel good when it comes to my body, mind and nutrition. My first thoughts included the need to add more healthy snacks like hard boiled eggs (please see below).
Then I remembered that I cannot be trusted to peel a hard boiled egg. Either way, eating better is at the top of the list.
(1) Eat better?..no no.. eat more healthfully?
The abused egg was eaten. The most important thing I want to focus on when deciding the best and easiest way to make more healthful decisions is how it is going to impact me in the long run. I want the changes I make to stick and I am still deciding on what avenue to go down. In the past I have tried things like IIFYM which was great at the time. Eventually I started going crazy with all of the measuring and counting. I also found myself justifying eating cookies and muffins from Starbucks for breakfast, which is ok, but it left me with no calories for dinner time. Meal plans have never really been for me but I like the idea of not having to think about anything and just following general guidelines. In fact, I enjoy the idea of a meal plan, but would like some flexibility on it. Like an extra flexible meal plan? Is this even possible?
About a 2 weeks ago I found Dr. Goglia's G-Plan app which is adapted from his best selling book Turn Up the Heat. After reading the entire book it really got me interested because he is really against any plan that is low calorie and extreme. Instead he bases his plan on research focused on eating more calories in order let your body work at its optimal state. This will result in loss of body fat and not just water weight/muscle loss. I have been on low calorie plans in the past and this is not the way to go for me. I do not think it is sustainable and I do not want to lose 10 lbs in order to gain them all back. I also want to follow a plan that is easy to remember and builds good habits. I started following his eating "template" for someone with my characteristics last week and I have really enjoyed it. I have not decided if I am going to continue with the program but it is making eating healthy a lot easier. I am eating around 1650-1750 calories a day and I love it. I weighed myself on Monday and I have lost 1 pound.
I am also considering going to a registered nutritionist in my area, more to come on that soon!
Much love,
D<3
